Starting a $20 Kindness Challenge
A Note from Kristina Ulmer, founder of the $20 Kindness Challenge:
In 2018, I started the $20 Kindness Challenge as a way to both honor my late sister and teach my students about empathy. I never imagined how meaningful the experience would be or how quickly it would grow beyond my own classroom. As teachers began reaching out to ask how they could try the challenge with their own students, this space was created to share guidance, ideas, and lessons learned.
The resources here are meant to support and inspire, not prescribe. They reflect what has worked in my own classroom and are offered as suggestions rather than requirements, with the understanding that every school community is different. The $20 Kindness Challenge is not about the money; it is about intentional kindness, thoughtful choices, and meaningful reflection, often through the simplest acts.
Thank you for considering this work with your students.
